Executive Director

 

The Adaptables, Inc., a Center for Independent Living, seeks a dynamic and skilled Executive Director, committed to the Independent Living Philosophy, to lead the organization in fulfilling its mission. The Adaptables provides information and assistance; advocacy and a variety of services to assist persons with disabilities live as independently as possible.

Responsibilities
The Executive Director is responsible for the overall management, operation, and expansion of agency services.  In addition to overall responsibility for day to day operations and programs, the Executive Director will be expected to be a visible, effective advocate promoting increased community capacity for independent living through elimination of barriers. Based in Winston Salem, NC the Adaptables serves Forsyth, Davie, Davidson, Stokes, Surry and Yadkin counties.

Qualifications

Education & Knowledge

  • Masters degree in a human service field or an equivalent combination of education and experience

  • Demonstrated understanding of the Independent Living Philosophy and the role of and regulations governing Centers for Independent Living

  • Knowledge of federal, state and local regulations and laws affecting people with disabilities

  • Knowledge of human service agencies, community resources and organizations serving people with disabilities

 

Experience

  • At least five years work experience in a professional environment, including a minimum of two years direct management and supervision experience

  • Experience working with county, state and federal agencies (i.e., DSS, Medicaid, SS and schools)

  • Experience with or knowledge of a variety of disability issues

  • Demonstrated success in fund raising/development

  • Experience or knowledge of the following areas: budgeting and financial management, HR management, administration, marketing, and planning

  • Experience in hiring and managing staff and volunteers

Salary and Benefit Information

  • Salary is commensurate with experience
  • This is a full-time, exempt position
