Organizational Summary: The MA Statewide Independent Living Council (SILC) works to enhance independent living services for people with disabilities throughout the state. The SILC works in collaboration with the Mass Rehabilitation Commission, Mass Commission for the Blind, other relevant state and non-profit agencies and the eleven Centers for Independent Living in the state. The SILC works to influence statewide planning and policies that encourage independence, productivity, access, and self-determination for people with disabilities within their communities.
Position Title: SILC Coordinator
Location: MetroWest Center for Independent Living, Framingham MA 01702, the contracted fiscal intermediary for the SILC
Type: This is a consultant position

Duties and Responsibilities: The SILC Coordinator serves as primary staff support for Council operations, and will attend all SILC meetings. The Coordinator will also participate in SILC Executive Committee and other committee meetings, in person or by conference call. The Coordinator is responsible for the management and oversight of SILC finances and funding, day to day operations, implementation of Council policies, writing of and adherence to the State Plan for Independent Living and 704 Part 1 report, government and community relations, and all activities to promote the MA SILC’s mission and purpose, according to the Rehabilitation Act of 1973, as amended.
Education: Bachelor’s degree in human services or related field, combined with at least a year’s experience with disability councils and three years of experience working with people with disabilities.

Knowledge/skills/abilities:
- Knowledge of Independent Living Philosophy and Centers for Independent Living
- Working knowledge of Disability Rights Laws (ADA, Rehab Act, IDEA)
- Understanding of public policy issues that affect people with disabilities
- Effective written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to write reports and maintain a budget
- Skills in computer operation. Microsoft experience preferred
