Position: Coordinator of the State Independent Living Council (SILC)

Duties:

Assist SILC Chair in developing agendas for SILC meetings.  Attend SILC meetings as the professional responsible for legislative awareness and advocacy for the organization.  

Interface with SILC members and all Center for Independent Living (CIL) Directors at meetings, through telephone and e-mail. Attend CIL Directors monthly meetings as directed.

At the direction of the SILC or SILC Chairperson, attend Legislative sessions and committee meetings that have an impact on the lives of persons with disabilities.  Attend State Council and committee meetings that are relevant to the lives of persons with disabilities.  Report on all meetings attended and activities related to these meetings by e-mail to SILC members and CIL Directors.

Develop a list-serv of persons with disabilities interested in advocacy.  Use this list to report on activities of interest to persons with disabilities so they will be well informed and able to use this material to successfully promote the SILC’s mission.

Skills Required:

Excellent writing ability.

Ability to verbally communicate and interact with diverse groups of people.

Computer proficiency, as well as willingness to add computer skills necessary to handle this position.

This position requires frequent travel to Trenton and may require trips to various sections of the state; therefore, the ideal candidate must have access to transportation.  Mileage reimbursement for use of personal vehicle,
