TRIPIL –Director of Development

 

The Director of Development at TRIPIL (Tri-County Patriots for Independent Living) is responsible for implementing and managing a diverse and comprehensive fundraising program as well as project-based campaigns for this multi-faceted nonprofit organization.  The position is a key member of the executive management team and reports directly to the Chief Executive Officer. This individual will be responsible for all aspects of TRIPIL’s fundraising, and supervision of support staff. S/he will contribute to the general management of the organization.

TRIPIL has engaged development consultants to conduct a feasibility study for a capital campaign. If TRIPIL goes forth with the capital campaign, this campaign will be the new Development Director’s initial top priority.

Tri-County Patriots for Independent Living (TRIPIL) affirms Liberty and Justice for all people with disabilities. TRIPIL is a Center for Independent Living that advocates for the civil rights for people with disabilities and promotes living well with a disability in our local community. We are a membership organization of people who live in our community with disabilities and our friends. Our center provides services such as peer support and attendant care.

Essential duties and responsibilities include the following:

  • Plan and execute a comprehensive fundraising program that includes a diverse mix of fundraising vehicles such as: annual giving campaign, grant writing, special events, major gifts, bequest solicitation and workplace campaigns. 

  • Develop, direct and continuously improve upon the implementation of a comprehensive fundraising plan with the CEO, executive directors and board.

  • Establish annual fundraising goals and establish benchmarks for project-based campaigns to ensure success. Develop a dashboard as appropriate.

  • Support senior leadership in talking to key community/government leaders.

  • Develop and manage development departmental budget.

  • Produce regular reports on fundraising progress to staff and Board and fundraising volunteers.

  • Identify, develop and implement short and long term goals for department initiatives.

  • Maintain accurate records of contributors, contributions, and grants to ensure security and quality controls

  • Identify and lead the implementation of a fundraising database program that will support TRIPIL’s current and future fundraising needs.

  • Research public and private grant sources (agencies, corporations and foundations) to identify restricted and unrestricted funding and apply for appropriate grants in a timely manner.

  • Network with consumer base and engage membership in development initiatives.

  • Identify and manage these corporate, governmental and foundation grant proposals with a special focus on funding cycles, requirements, deadlines.

  • Manage the identification, cultivation and solicitation of current and prospective donors.

  • Facilitate peer-to-peer cultivation and solicitation of donors/prospective donors as staff to the Board and the volunteer fundraising (Campaign) committee.

  • Personally manage a portfolio of donors and donor prospects.

  • Manage all donor correspondence, produce specialized correspondence, prepare letters of acknowledgment, and schedule/attend in-person visits when appropriate

  • Ensure the planning, marketing and coordination of special events

  • Supervise all gift tracking procedures ensuring that all gifts are recorded and recognized accurately and timely

  • Provide comprehensive training to volunteers and staff during special events.

  • Strategize with consultants to maximize fundraising goals and targets.

  • Interview, hire, train and manage development staff to support organizational goals and mission.

  • Maintain awareness of trends, new developments and best practices in development and integrate in development and capacity building efforts

  • Engage local community organizations, such as Washington County Chamber of Commerce, to promote and educate the organizational strategies and build relationships

Qualifications of the Ideal Candidates:

  • Bachelor’s degree, a minimum of 5-7 years of direct development experience with a non-profit and grant writing experience is required.

  • Extensive experience in successful fundraising campaigns including annual giving campaigns, event planning, proposal development and grant or foundation solicitations is required. Major capital campaign experience a plus.

  • Demonstrated ability to achieve revenue targets and understanding of strategic development.

  • High energy, flexible, attentive to detail, self-motivated, and organized with the ability to multi-task

  • Strong interpersonal and verbal communication skills

  • Demonstrated ability to write clearly and persuasively 

  • Strong event planning skills and ability to work productively and successfully under pressure

  • Thorough understanding of all components of a diversified funding base.

  • Excellent computer skills and knowledge of fundraising databases
