Not Just Responding To
Change, But Leading It!

Dear Independent Living Advocate:

Each year the IL NET, a collaborative training project of ILRU, NCIL, and APRIL, provides financial support for regional trainings on Independent Living.  These regional events provide training on a variety of IL issues, from management to advocacy, in a local setting to reduce travel costs and facilitate local collaboration, problem solving, and strategizing.  Regional training topics may be selected from IL NET’s existing cache of training programs or may be original training topics, provided they address at least one of IL NET’s priority areas:

Regional trainings must also be open to at least one entire region or regions; state-by-state events are not eligible for funding.  Financial support must only be spent on training expenses, such as meeting room(s) costs, training materials, trainer / consultant fees, audio / visual costs (if required for the presentation), and accommodations and accessible materials.

Funding is available for two types of regional training events: 1) regional trainings / workshops focused on one topic or collection of relevant topics (e.g., ABCs of Nursing Home Transition for Region III CILs), and 2) regional IL conferences, with training on various IL topics (e.g., Region III Independent Living Conference).  Regional trainings / workshops awards shall not exceed $5,500.  Regional IL conference awards shall not exceed $2,500.

Applicants agree that, if funded, they will provide IL NET staff with the following required documents and materials:

  • Training Outline – clearly identifying the topic(s) to be covered, learning objectives, and a planning calendar will be due three months prior to the event,
  • Training Materials – all materials and handouts to be shared with participants will be due two months prior to the event,
  • Participant List – list of participants and their contact information will be due within two weeks of the end of the event, and
  • Evaluation Information – completed evaluation from all participants (evaluation template is attached to this application) will be due within two weeks of the end of the event.

Applications will be accepted on a rolling deadline.  Interested parties are encouraged to apply as soon as possible.
