The National Council on Independent Living Presents…
The President’s Budget: What It Means for IL and What You Can Do about It!
Friday, March 25, 2011; 2:00 – 3:00 PM EDT
The President's 2012 budget proposal, released on February 14, 2011, suggests drastic changes to the way the Independent Living (IL) Program is currently funded in America, and is leaving Centers for Independent Living and advocates very concerned about the future. These proposed changes would have serious implications for Centers, and there are many questions about what can be done to preserve some of the core IL values threatened by this proposal.
The National Council on Independent Living (NCIL) will host a webinar for our members and other concerned individuals and organizations to give a briefing on the current state of the President's 2012 budget proposal, and facilitate a conversation on a coordinated strategy moving forward. The President’s proposal to block grant funding for Independent Living would set our progress back by almost 20 years. Although the proposed changes could not take effect without changes to the Rehab Act, it is important that you are well-informed and involved in the effort to fight these harmful proposals.
