Recruiting, orienting, and retaining active and informed SILC members are not easy tasks, but there are proven strategies that can strengthen your approaches to these activities. If you would like to explore some of these strategies, then join us in March to hear from two SILCs that have developed effective processes which result in more committed and engaged Council members.

SILC Chairs, Executive Directors, and staff; and any SILC Committee members responsible for recruiting, orienting / training, and supporting SILC members
Learning Objectives
Upon completion of this webinar, participants will have knowledge and resources which will enable them to:
- Describe effective strategies to strengthen SILC member recruitment processes that will result in committed, highly engaged council members, while reducing turnover.
- Identify the elements of highly effective member orientation sessions that result in greater knowledge of the IL field and a higher comfort level among members as they begin their new roles.
- Utilize effective “best practice” tools and techniques for improving the ongoing support and development of SILC members.

Meet Your Presenters
Camille Pansa, Executive Director, Rhode Island SILC
Camille has been Executive Director of the Rhode Island Statewide Independent Living Council for the past eleven years. Through her work and volunteerism, Camille has acquired an extensive background in recruiting and training, including the development and implementation of a Recruiting and Orientation Program for perspective Council members. Camille earned a Bachelor’s Degree from Saint Joseph College in Connecticut where she majored in History and Political Science.
Shelly Emery, Operations Coordinator, Oregon SILC
Shelly is the Operations Coordinator for Oregon's SILC, where she has been employed since 2003. During that time, one of her duties has been to support the Council's Membership Development Committee; assisting them in the design of new recruitment, training, and evaluation methodologies. Prior to joining the SILC staff, Shelly spent many years providing administrative leadership and training in non-profit and for profit corporations, ranging from community to business functions.
