Roads To Independence (RTI) is a non-profit community based organization providing services and advocacy by, and for, all persons with disabilities. We are a non-residential facility. RTI was formed in October of 2000, to serve people with disabilities in primarily living in Davis, Morgan and Weber Counties. Our staff is dedicated to working with individuals with disabilities to identify and remove barriers, and to assist with living independently in their own homes and communities.

Roads serves as a strong advocacy voice on a wide range of national, state, and local issues. We work to assure physical and programmatic access to housing, employment, transportation, recreation, health and social services. 

  • Status: Full Time with benefits (would consider Part time for the right candidate)
  • Salary: $12.00 to $16.00 hr. Based on experience
  • Reports to: Day to Day direction by Program Manager and Executive Director

Job Description: The Assistive Technology (AT) Coordinator is responsible for working with all age and types of people with disabilities in assessing and recommending Assistive Technology equipment and home modifications so that individuals with disabilities can live more independently in the community. The successful candidate will be able to manage time effectively and be knowledgeable in all aspects of Assistive Technology and necessary home modifications. Must also be creative and use imagination to develop ideas to design devices to assist a person with a disability to live independently. Assist in supervising the Loan Bank Specialist.


  1. Do AT evaluations on homes, people with disabilities, and other areas as requested;
  2. Assist consumers in determining appropriate adaptive devices necessary for achieving their goals;
  3. Work with consumers on the identification and proper use and maintenance of adaptive equipment or devices;
  4. Work with the Independent Living Coordinator;
  5. Submit all AT requests in a timely manner;
  6. Interact with consumers in a professional manner with respect for their rights and maintain strict adherence to the independence living philosophy;
  7. Coordinate and monitor equipment progress, completion, and reviews;
  8. Maintain knowledge of the newest equipment available to consumers;
  9. Attend seminars, and continue training for new equipment as it becomes available;
  10. Make recommendations for equipment and adaptive devices to funding sources such as Utah State Office of Rehabilitation (USOR), Medicare, Medical Private Insurance carriers and other agencies;
  11. Coordinate in-service training as requested by the agency;
  12. Participate in consumer evaluations and annual reviews;
  13. Assist with and oversee the loan bank of equipment and adaptive devices;
  14. Develop and maintain relationships with vendors;
  15. Attend staff meeting and participate in center events;
  16. Advocate on issues promoting for independence of people with disabilities;
  17. Assist other agencies such as Vocational Rehab in assessing and determining AT needs;
  18. Expand resource library for equipment and adaptive devices;
  19. Submit all reports to the Program Manager in a timely manner;
  20. Educate consumers on other community resources;
  21. Solicit funds or materials from vendors/businesses;
  22. Other duties as assigned by the Program Manager and Executive Director.


  • Excellent writing skills and Computer literate.
  • Must be organized with attention to detail
  • A team player and supportive of other staff members; Experience working with individuals with disabilities.
  • Personal experience with disability and /or knowledge of disability issues and the consumer/community based independent living philosophy a plus.
  • Bilingual abilities a plus.
  • Knowledge about the ADA is a plus, knowledge about ramps, stair lifts, wheel chairs, walkers, lift chairs, stair glides, and other durable medical equipment
  • Applicant must pass criminal background check;
  • Be able to lift 50 pounds preferred;
  • Be willing to drive company vehicles including a 14 passenger bus
  • Reliable means of transportations as travel will be required throughout Weber, Morgan, and Davis Counties;

Working Conditions:

Work schedule requires flexibility and is dependent upon program needs. Work is typically performed in an office environmentally controlled setting. The position requires traveling out of area and working flexible hours, occasionally including weekends and evenings.
