Program Director, Alpha One (Maine)

Background and General Summary:

Alpha One is a non-profit agency that provides disability solutions for people throughout the state of Maine. In the late 1980s, Alpha One secured state appropriated funding for a program to provide low interest loans to people in need of adaptive equipment or assistive technology to enable them to live independently. This program, known as the Adaptive Equipment Loan Program (“AELP”), is governed by a volunteer Board of Directors. Since inception, the AELP Board has contracted with Alpha One for non-financial support services and with another vendor for all financial services. The AELP Board has determined that the program would benefit from a significant re-design that includes transitioning financial services from the other vendor to Alpha One. To that end, Alpha One seeks to hire a Program Director for the AELP who will be responsible for developing and implementing the transition of financial services to Alpha One, developing a plan for redesigning the program to achieve greater administrative efficiencies, and managing the AELP going forward.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Develop, implement, and manage plan for transitioning financial support services from the current vendor to Alpha One and transfer of the loan fund to a state entity as the AELP Board may direct.
  • Develop, implement, and manage program redesign.
  • Develop and present regular financial reporting, including revenue and cost projections with a view to achieving a sustainable revolving loan fund.
  • Develop continuous improvement of management information.
  • Perform other duties as assigned

  • Bachelor’s degree or higher
  • Strong finance academic background, training, and experience
  • Exceptional critical thinking skills
  • Excellent organizational, time management, and planning skills
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Excellent collaboration and facilitation skills
